Building on an Island….
Often times, I’m asked the question….”how in the world, do you build a house on a non ferry-served island?”
The answer I give is, “the same way you build one anywhere else.”
Yes, everything has to be shipped in but the process, once you get here, is exactly the same.
This week, one of our property owners is having a home erected on his property. He contracted with Coastal Construction, a Decatur Island contractor; to prepare the home site, install the driveway and septic system and coordinate the building of an Armstrong home on his parcel. The truck arrived on the island, Wednesday January 7 th, with everything needed for the house. The exterior walls were all pre-manufactured in a warehouse in Seattle so the only framing done on-site was the interior walls and porches. Two days later, the home was up and the exterior siding was being installed. One week later, plumbers were installing the plumbing and roofers were on their way…
The following pictures document the progress:
Driveway is in to home site…

Two days after arrival, it’s looking like a house….
One week later, it IS a house…..
